Believe it or not, science does not pretend to have all of the answers. Not even all of the questions. But there are areas where we can be pretty sure of what we do know and of its validity to our current frame of reference.
The will of the Goddesses is not some great mystery. It's quite readily explained and doesn't even call on anything near the level of quantum mechanics to do so. And you might ask yourself just who it was that built that original "seed" crystal that Athena uses as its primary timer.

You are really starting to steam me now Drummond! You can fool around with all the toys you want! ATHENA is real, tell me have you ever had the cold water cut off in the middle of the shower? Ever had you coffee spiked with all sorts of things? you just don't get it, and I think you never will! You can cut off her arms and legs and she will still function. She can override your so called control.

So, like, when she makes those threats and so-forth, I know FOR A FACT that -- while, sure, she can deliver -- she's got nothing back it up with. No I don't want to lobotomize her. And, as I've reminded her time and again, the Board of Directors is looking rally longingly at an IBM 4620, which would put her out to pasture.
