Welcome to the Unhyphenated American; a web site for citizens of the United States that view themselves in non-racial terms.  This site is dedicated to the goal of having all Americans being treated and viewed by their government as simply Americans.  An Unhyphenated American considers the attainment of this goal to be 'Racial Freedom'.  To that end, this site encourages that all Americans respond "human" in the 'some other race' (pdf, jpeg) section of the U.S. Census questionnaire.  This is justified because each respondent decides his or her racial identity when they "self-identify".   If all Americans did this, the U.S. Census Bureau will be denied the (mis)information it collects for our government's 'race-based' policies.  Based on past Census Schedules, the next Decennial Census is scheduled to start in February of 2010.

Many will argue that it's unreasonable to remove consideration of 'race' from government social policies; that it's needed as a counter-weight to segregationist and inhumane policies in our nation's history.  An Unhyphenated American would respectfully disagree while at the same time fully acknowledging man's prior inhumanity (and humanity) to his fellow man.  Furthermore, he/she would strive to live both his/her public and private life by a set of core principles; one of which is that the concept of 'race' is a man-made creation; a sociological phenomenon as opposed to a biological one.

The Unhyphenated American challenges you to take the 'Color' Test (Caution: Taking this test might change your perceptions of 'race') and open your mind's eye to the absurdity of 'race-based' social policies.

Media requests:  In an effort to keep the focus of this site's message on the message itself, the site's author will only give written interviews.  This will eliminate the temptation for a journalist and/or columnist to refer to the interviewee as anything other than an American.

About the author: I have received several emails requesting basic background information: Have I ever been a victim of discrimination?  Questions on birthplace, heritage, parent's heritage, etc.  While I will happily respond to informational requests on this site's advocacy, I will not respond to any email that will further the (mis)categorization of a fellow American.  Please allow this site's information to stand on its own logic and merit, independent of the advocate.

I'm not affiliated with any academic institution or organized group.  I'm just an American citizen promoting  'out-of-the-box' thinking that will hopefully lead to a better future America for my children and grandchildren.  I strive to the live by the principles laid out here and simply ask visitors to this site to do the same.
