Explore your notions on skin color and 'race' |
||
| Assume that the color palette to the right represents all possible colors for human skin . Using your mouse pointer, select (left-mouse click) the color that you would designate as the starting color for 'White Americans'. All colors to the left (i.e., darker shades) of the color you select will be 'Non-White'. | ||
You selected this color as the starting color in the palette for 'White Americans'. |
White: |
|
This color is just one shade (look carefully and you will see the difference) darker than the color you selected as 'White' and therefore 'Non-White'. |
Non-White: | |
Now ask yourself the following question: Assume an individual with the skin color you have designated as 'White' gets enough of a tan so that his/her skin color becomes the color you designated as 'Non-White'. Is this person now a 'Non-White' for consideration in employment, college acceptance or any other government policy that currently considers how people are perceived and/or perceive themselves? |
