We had another win this Sunday but it was my Brother Derek's turn
this time. He is driving the Hemi Dragster. 8^)

After all the problems with the Mags I finally convinced Dad to
get a MSD system, we bought a 7AL-3 box. We also installed a
crossover delay box on the car. We removed 3 "mag" boxes and
allot of wiring.

The install went smooth except 1 thing, Dad bought a 440
distributor which turns CCW so it was retarding the engine. We
locked out the distributor and set it to 34 deg. The valves were
rechecked and the oil was changed also (at home).

Dave - BBC Dragster:
Nothing was done to the BBC Dragster except some lettering
(finally). I didn't have a good day racing. I put an 8000 chip in
the HI RPM setting and the car wouldn't go over 6500 in my 1st
time run. I had this problem before and thought it was the chip
but it must be the box. I did get 1 good time run in though I ran
5.490@120.884 with a .002 RT & 1.194 60ft. The air was bad. In
Round 1 I spun badly, I had a 1.238 60ft and ran 5.565 on a 5.48
dial. I bought back in and forgot to check the switch on the box
to leave on the slower cars tree. I left on his tree but the box
left on mine. I had a big red light needless to say. I won't make
this bonehead mistake again!

Derek - Hemi Dragster:
After getting the car all setup in the pits and checking all the
rev limiters Derek made his 1st time run. He ran 5.225@131.670
with a 1.158 60ft. The car ran a best of 5.37@130 last week with
better air. The MSD has made a difference in the idle and lower
RPM range.
Derek and Dad retarded the engine 2 degrees to 32 and went for
the 2nd time run. Derek forgot to turn off the burnout switch.
Needless to say the car wouldn't shift because it never reached
7000 rpm.

Here are the winning run details:

R1:
Time   Lane  Dial   RT    60ft    1/8    MPH      PKG  O-PKG
13:20  L     5.22   .031  1.170   5.284  130.100  .095 .064
We didn't account for the change in timing and the car ran
slower.

R2 - Buy Back:
Time   Lane  Dial   RT    60ft    1/8    MPH      PKG  O-PKG
15:50  L     5.28   .060  1.172   5.302  127.291  .082 .166
He had the guy covered and let off. I imagine the guy spun
looking at his numbers.

R3:
Time   Lane  Dial   RT    60ft    1/8    MPH      PKG  O-PKG
16:40  R     5.26   .040  1.176   5.269  130.874  .049 Red Light
We dropped 2 off the dial because the right lane is quicker.
The guy we ran had a -.003 light and ran 7.180 on a 7.18 dial in.

R4:
Time   Lane  Dial   RT    60ft    1/8    MPH      PKG  O-PKG
17:00  R     5.27   .001  1.182   5.282  129.637  .013 .050
Ran the track champion from 1996. He is a tough competitor.
Took .020 out of the delay box because the sun was out.

R5 - Qtrs:
Time   Lane  Dial   RT    60ft    1/8    MPH      PKG  O-PKG
17:30  R     5.27   .006  1.181   5.283  130.441  .019 BO -.014
Derek didn't let off this run. He also added .010 in the delay box.

R6 - Semis:
Time   Lane  Dial   RT    60ft    1/8    MPH      PKG  O-PKG
17:50  L     5.30   .041  1.167   5.283  130.083  BO   Bye Run
Got the bye in the coin toss. There were 2 drivers left and one
had a bye the round before.

R7 - Finals:
Time   Lane  Dial   RT    60ft    1/8    MPH      PKG  O-PKG
18:10  L     5.27   .037  1.179   5.309  129.979  .076 .096
Ran William Hamilton - The Fat Lady. This guy won the $50,000
race last year. We put .002 more in the delay box just in case.

We had a great time and I'm glad Derek got his first win and
only 2 weeks after mine. The new delay box we put in his dragster
is a cross over box that will allow him to leave off his
opponent's light and his light (if he has time).

Congratulations Derek!
