Derek got his car back together on Saturday and drove
it to the track
on Sunday. He thought about running it but decided
not to. He brought
it to the track on Monday and bought a trophy tech
card. He left the
street tires on it. He got one time run and launched
with the tranny brake
with the two step at 3000 with the pedal on the floor.
He smoked the tires
through 1st and 2nd gear. He ended up running 9.65
in the 1/8 mile.
He decided to try a softer launch first round. He dialed
a 9.50 and left the
line easy in the right lane. Somewhere around 150
feet the drivers side axle
broke. Needless to say the wheel and axle came off
the car. The car started
to turn left and got into the grass strip between
the lanes.
Derek tried to stop but didn't have brakes since the
rear hub was off the car.
He was trying to turn right while he crossed over
in front of the other driver
in the left lane. He hit the wall at about a 35 degree
angle. He bounced off the
wall and ended up back on the track in the left lane.
The other driver, John Manns
got stopped in time.
Derek was shook up but was not injured. The car is
another story. The wheel
with the axle ended up past the 1/8 mile line. Derek
and the car were just past
the 330' mark.
Here are some photos.
