Dad & Derek had left the house a little before
Theresa and I. I installed a hitch on the Van
Saturday so I could pull the small "golf cart" trailer.
We were almost to the track and noticed an accident in front of Ross
High & Middle school. There
was a badly damaged pickup in the left ditch and I noticed Dad's trailer
parked off the road
on the left about 300 feet up the road. I started to pull over on the
right when someone was
motioning me to come through. He said my Dad was involved in an accident.
I pulled through
the debris and behind the trailer, I saw Dad and then spotted the front
end of the truck pointing
back on the left of the trailer. Dad was all right but the truck was
totaled. What happened is the
other truck (An S-10) came at Dad head on. Dad got as far to the right
as he could and the guy
missed him but he didn't miss the dually rear wheels. He also caught
6 or 8 feet of the trailer.
His truck got hung up on the trailer and was pushed backwards across
the road into a ditch.
Dad's truck immediately jack-knifed to the left because the rear end
was drove back on that side.
The trailer proceeded to push the truck down and across the road and
into the grass. The right front
tire blew and dug into the ground raising the left side of the truck.
It the 5th wheel had not of held the
truck would have rolled. The trailer pushed the truck another 100 feet
and finally stopped 2 feet
from a telephone pole. Luckily on one was coming the other way. The
guy who hit Dad never
hit his brakes or swerved. We think he was drunk or asleep. He went
to UC by chopper. Someone
from the track brought a truck to take the trailer to the track, he
also towed us home (Thanks Paul
Hudson, owner of Cincinnati Flatbed Service). We don't have the truck
back yet because the
Police won't release it until they know if the driver of the other
truck will live. He has a separated
broken pelvis and is in serious condition. Inside the trailer the Hemi
dragster got some scratches
on it and mine had a dent in the side of it where the cars moved and
the front wheels hit. On of the
gas cans was cut open and had leaked some fuel, luckily there wasn't
a fire.
Here is where the S-10 hit the truck
This is where he hit the trailer down the side
Dad got out the passenger door. The cab
is twisted 12 inches from the bed now
Here is what is left of the S-10
The truck flew back about 50 feet after hitting the trailer
It's a good thing no one was riding in the back seat!
Here is a shot after the trailer is pulled back
This is how far the rear end was drove back.
Thank God Dad wasn't hurt. We Love you Dad!
