TROPICAL STORM GUSTAV STEALS TWO DAYS OF OUR VACATION!!!

September 9 and 10, 2002

Yesterday was a beautiful day.  Before we left for Ocracoke Island, we had made arrangements for the 2 hour 15 minute ferry trip to Cedar Island to see the Cape Lookout Lighthouse.  We didn't know that Tropical Storm Gustav was heading our way.  When we woke up on the morning of September 9th to prepare for our trip to Cedar Island, one look out the window prompted us to turn on the TV to the Weather Channel to see what was in store.  After listening to the reports, we canceled our reservations for the ferry.  The following pictures were taken from our deck and from inside our beach house when it got too windy.

Shortly after these last two pictures were taken, the owner of the Outer Banks Motel and Beach Houses moved us to a cottage inland for our safety.  We were stuck in the village for two days until Gustav moved back out to sea.  For a good part of the day on September 10th, we were without electricity.  No lights, no television, no stove, refrigerator or microwave!!  The electric was restored somewhere around 8:00 pm. On the morning of September 11th we moved back into our beach house.
