Regimental Flag
2nd Tennessee Infantry U. S. A.

We know from Giltner's report in the Official Records that "The regimental flag of the Second East Tennessee Infantry is reported as having been captured by Company B, Fourth Kentucky, and the national flag of same regiment as captured by Lieutenant-Colonel Trimble, Tenth Kentucky Battalion."

Until recenently, nothing else has been known about the regimental flag. In 1995 a book was published by Rank and File Publications and edited by Richard Rollins. The title of the book is "The Returned Battle Flags" (ISBN Number:0-9638993-4-1). The photo at left appears in the book as part of a group of Confederate flags returned to the respective states in 1905. This is probably the regimental flag of the 2nd Tennessee Infantry U.S.A. It apparently was mixed up among Confederate flags. However, it is not at the Tennessee State Museum in Nashville.

If you have any information regarding the present whereabouts of the flag, please email Dave Mathews.
