I became interested in this regiment because my great-great grandfather, Private Caleb Hickman of Company K, was one of those captured at Rogersville. He was also one of the many who died of disease at Belle Isle. His only child, Mary Elizabeth Cordelia, was my great grandmother. I began researching the regiment about 1990. I have been to Washington, D.C. several times to conduct research and have visited the battle site at Rogersville.
