COMMENTS: On Nov 8 1861 Captain Fry and about 50 other men burned the long bridge over Lick Creek in Greene Co TN. He fled to GA where he was among those who raided a railroad line between Marietta GA and Chattanooga TN. He was later captured while trying to enter KY and jailed at Knoxville as a spy. He was transferred to Atlanta GA and escaped 14 Oct 1862, the night before his scheduled execution. He returned to the regiment at Murfreesborough TN 17 Feb 1863. He was arrested by Brig Gen J P Carter in summer of 1863. Apparently charges were unfounded. He was transferred and promoted to Lieutenant Colonel of scouts 4 Nov 1863. Honorable discharge finally issued by special order from War Department 21 Mar 1865.
